Two Airey type properties completely clad in Novabrik.
St Cuthberts Drive is a small estate located in Pelaw. The dwellings are a mixture of private and Council owned houses. On this estate there are approximately 60 No. Airey houses requiring renovation from the Council stock.
Prior to the installation of the Novabrik system, all of the external concrete cladding is removed and new timber structural members are placed within the existing cavity alongside the concrete columns. It is then insulated and over clad with plywood sheathing boards.
Scope included the installation of 25x75mm s/w treated timber battens at max. 600mm ctrs fixed with 65mm s.s. screws at 250mm ctrs along with all the necessary flashings and membranes around openings.
A uPVC starter track is installed to align and support the first four rows to the base of the elevation. This is then built up four courses at a time, then set and lined up to form a straight uniform bed for the next four rows.
The product is installed four courses at a time then drilled and screwed to each batten which gives a one in eight brick fixing using 75mm s.s. screws.
With the installation complete it has transformed not only the visual appearance of the property but also the structural rigidity and durability from external forces.
Towards the end of December, we completed a two storey application of Novabrik on two Airey Type properties in the Gateshead area. The existing property had been structurally improved by Gateshead Local Environmental Services by removing the existing concrete cladding and installing structural timber columns alongside the existing concrete columns. Once this was in place the property was insulated and over clad with sheathing ply ready for the rain screen.
St Astier had two and a half weeks to completely clad the external walls of the two properties as the scaffold needed to be removed for the Christmas period. The timber carrier battens and NovaBrik was undertaken and carried out each day, regardless of weather and both buildings were completed within the required timescale giving other trades time to finish and clear the site. It was a good Christmas for all..
