The Ridgeway flats in Birtley have recently been fully refurbished by St Astier, working for Morrison FS for the Gateshead Housing Company.
These well known flats in Birtley have been transformed from undesirable dwellings to modern, efficient homes in only four months.
The lack of fixing points meant that a fully designed, buttressed scaffold was used.
Phenolic insulation boards were bonded and mechanically fixed onto the pre-cast concrete panels.
Corrosion to the railing fixings and water penetration caused spalling to the concrete balconies.
Concrete repairs were undertaken, followed by an application of an anti-slip decking and new railings.
Once the installation boards were installed, rendering commenced.
The final decorative coat is applied.
A pre-fabricated brick slip panel was installed at low level and the joints were repointed upon completion.

Communal areas were decorated and new vinyl flooring fitted.
The transformed building uplifts the main arterial route into Birtley, and the tenants are delighted with the outcome.
