Summer Competition Winner

Stone Henge

To win our English Heritage competition we asked you to tell us where you’d most like to go if you were to bag our one year membership prize. We had some great emails but none better than Kris Pedersen’s who obviously has a great passion for the North East’s scenery and architecture…

“I have a number of favourite English Heritage sites so it’s difficult to single any one out.

From being able to sit under the shadow of Tynemouth Priory to watch the sun rise over the East Coast to being able to walk around Dunstanburgh Castle then take a stroll along the beach to Low Newton with the castle as a backdrop.

I love Warkworth and with the castle overlooking the whole village, it gives a real feeling of heritage.

Upon a visit to Edlingham I always get a feel for what it must have been like in this castle’s zenith. Having to keep watch in all weathers to keep England safe from impendent invasions by the Scots. It seems such a shame that it is inevitably going to fall over. The church next to Edlingham Castle is very pretty too.

If I have to make a decision though, and I know I do, I have to choose Belsay Castle for its Greek Revival architecture and stunning views. There’s always something going on up thre too. From open air Shakespeare plays to the Picture House exhibition that’s currently running. I can spend hours in the grounds of Belsay Hall, wandering around, taking in an exhibition or simply staring in wonderment at the structure”

Congratulations, Kris. Please get in touch to claim your prize.
