New Facade For The Parade

A row of shops clad in Novabrik

A community shopping centre at the heart of a South Yorkshire housing estate has undergone a complete external make-over as part of a local authority led regeneration initiative.

The Parade Shopping Centre is at the heart of a post war housing estate and provides a range of facilities to the local community. Unfortunately the brick, concrete and stone buildings had suffered over the years and a decision was therefore taken by Rotherham Borough Council to upgrade the existing structure as the only other alternative would be to demolish and re-build at considerable expense.

A number of cladding systems were considered and Novabrik was finally chosen due its mix of time, cost, aesthetic and disruption-free benefits. Using St Astier’s computer based modelling, Rotherham Council were able to make informed decisions about the design of the Novabrik system and consult with the local residents on an acceptable colour scheme.

St Astier began works to the front elevation of the shopping centre, which is now largely complete, in late September and cladding to the rear elevation is set to finish in early 2009.

Look out for the full feature in our projects section at the turn of the year.
