MetroCentre Concrete Screeding

St Astier begins work today to repair and replace concrete slabs in the MetroCentre’s Yellow Quadrant – one of the original sections of the iconic development, built in 1988.

The work is part of the previously announced £45m remodelling of the MetroCentre for owners, Capital Shopping Centres, to reconfigure the Yellow Mall’s main entrance hall, improve access from car parking areas, replace lifts and escalators and create new leisure facilities, modern retailing and dining areas for the 24 million visitors the centre receives annually.

In total, St Astier will be laying over 2530 sq m of new concrete screed flooring. The first job will be to prepare the floor slab and cut back any worn out sections. Then layer by layer, we’ll place about 300 tonnes of self levelling, concrete screed to build-up the flooring to its new design height. Each layer will be a maximum of 30mm thick with a Nitoprime top coating applied before the next layer is placed. The final finish will be a 10mm thick, abrasion resistant layer which can cope with follow-on trades with fork trucks and other construction traffic.
