On the outskirts of Grainger Town and amongst 36 hectares of ‘Tyneside Classical’ architecture stands 1 Neville Street – a 19th century grade II listed structure attached to Newcastle Central Station. Designed by John Dobson and constructed in collaboration with Robert Stephenson, son of the famous George Stephenson, the station has a classical styled frontage which is reflected in the facade of the building you see above.
Currently home to the Britsh Transport Police as well as a childcare service, the structure is the subject of a 16 week repair and maintenance project. St Astier will be on site shortly to undertake sensitive stonework repairs, historic lime repointing, roof repairs and general redecoration.
